We welcome you to The Harrisville United Methodist Church's website!
Located approximately 1hr 15 minutes north of Pittsburgh and 1 hr 10 minutes south of Erie, Harrisville UMC is striving to fulfill the commission of Jesus Christ to make disciples of all nations.
On this site, you will see a schedule of events, news of the Church and pictures of all of the Church's happenings throughout the year.
We welcome you to take a look at our site and we welcome you to worship with us on Sunday morning! May the Lord bless you always!
Harrisville United Methodist Church is a "Safe Sanctuary" for our children and our community.
Welcome everyone! I am glad you have taken a moment to visit the website. I hope this website will help guide you to the information which you need.
The problem with a website however is that it isn't warm, loving and caring. These are words that I would use to describe the congregation of Harrisville United Methodist Church. If these are characteristics you would like to see in action, I encourage you to come and spend some time at the church. I believe at Harrisville United Methodist Church you will find individuals who will seek to show you that the Spirit and love of Christ is alive and well and just waiting to be poured out and shared with others.
Come on out and be a part of the body of Christ!
WELCOME!!!
Summer is here and it is now time to be outdoors and soak up some of the warmth of the sun's rays. During this summer I hope to be able to work some in the yard and in the garden and watch the beauty of God's creation right before my eyes. While that sounds so simple, sometimes it just doesn't work that same way.
In our newsletter, the Breadbasket, I wrote to you about how excited I was to plant my garden. I wrote about tilling and preparing the soil, and that to get the soil just right I infused it with some fragrant manure. Well, what I am finding now is that while fertile soil is great for my vegetables, it is also great for my weeds. I looked into the garden last night and suddenly realized that within the last week weeds had sprung up everywhere.
Now for some people this could be a real problem, but I have three sons who just started summer vacation and need a good project for the summer. But the point is this. Just as we have come to a strong point in our faith during the fall, winter and spring through attendance at Sunday School and worship; if we are too carefree with our summer, the weeds may come in and begin to take over. Faith, like a garden takes maintenance.
While it is a joy to have the boys to weed the garden, it is also a concern. Sometimes the zeal to pull out the weeds involves damage to the good plants as well. One must use tender care in removing that which is a problem while preserving that which is good. In fact if weeded properly, this process can aerate the soil and actually improve the plants left behind. Eventually, through a lot of good work throughout the summer, we will eat some great beans, lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, and yes even brussel sprouts. But that harvest will not happen unless we do our proper maintenance throughout the summer.
Are you maintaining your faith this summer? Are you taking some time to pray? Are you reading and reflecting upon scripture from the Bible? If you aren't you may suddenly find yourself surrounded by weeds trying to choke out your growth. As Jesus warned us in Mark 4:18-19, "Still others, like seed thrown among thorns, hear the word; but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful." This is not where any of us want to be.
Please come and join with us as we tend the soil around our roots and feet. Come pray, worship, sing, and study about Jesus Christ and prepare to go on to the harvest. Jesus desires us to grow, just like we desire the plants in our garden to grow. This is why Jesus continues on and tells the disciples in Mark, "Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop - thirty, sixty or even a hundred times what was sown."
Come and be part of this harvest and celebrate God's creation of everlasting life!

Greetings,
Independence Day is always a fun day to celebrate. Being from West Virginia I also relate to Independence Day as the motto of West Virginia is “Mountaineers are always Free.” We so many times desire to be independent and free, yet we live in a world and community that requires us to live with other people. In fact, in tough economic times like these with gas prices soaring, vegetable prices climbing, and concerns of unemployment and underemployment all around us, it is hard to see ourselves as independent.
The fact is that we all can achieve our freedom and independence only through our reliance and dependence on Christ. It is only through the actions of Jesus Christ that we have the opportunity to be released from our bondage to sin and death. Only through faith in Christ do we have the opportunity to transcend this world around us, and the trappings of this world to reach true freedom. In Christ,
Pastor Bill Hastings
